Summary:
This PD session will expose faculty to benefits of formative assessments, and then provide faculty with various formative assessment tools they could utilize in their classes.

Tasks:
1) Watch Intro video of Rick Wormeli's Formative Assessments:

  • Have a 1 minute "Turn and Talk" with neighbor about impressions of Wormeli video

2) Read first three sections of article and highlight meaningful passages:

  • One round of "Last Word" with table for 45 seconds each


3) Assign each table (tables organized by department/subject area) a category of routines from Visible Thinking Routines

  • Review list of routines in category. Choose most powerful one and devise a skit to demo that routine to entire group.
  • MC will review why routine is effective and would be helpful to teachers.
